“Gratitude”

Hi group, my name is Rick and I’m a REAL alcoholic. I’m sorry to hear that you’re losing your house, Rob, everything happens for a reason. I want to switch gears a bit and talk a little about my gratitude. I have been sharing with the group some of the obstacles I have faced since being kicked out of my halfway house. Well I got some good news on Monday. Glen asked me to come back to work and pick up some shifts.

Last night we were short staffed and slammed. I guess six of our servers went out and relapsed the other night, including the cute hostess who just came down from Father Marty’s. I really thought she was getting this program. I’m gonna miss working with her, she was really hot – in all of the right places if you know what I mean.

All was going well until about 9:30 p.m. A party of 12 came into the restaurant and sat in my section. The old me would have taken one look at this group and begged another server to take the table. Experience has shown me, and I’m not being racist, that these types of people are not the biggest tippers. No offense to you, Ron.  Anyway, that was the old me.  I mumbled the Serenity Prayer dozens of times and went ahead and waited on them. It paid off, they tipped me $50 on a $170 check. I almost crapped my pants.

So things are looking up and God is teaching me new lessons everyday. I need to spend a little time examining my character defects though and stop being so quick to judge. In fact, I think I’m gonna ask Ron if he wants to get a friggin’ coffee after the meeting. Hey Ron, you wanna grab a coffee?

Thanks for letting me share.
