Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince ***1/2

This is the sixth film in a series about a bunch of young people who go to wizard school. This chapter is a deeply satisfying adventure that seamlessly weaves together elements of whimsy and terror. It's all very wholesome though.

The film begins with Harry hitting on a black chick. Not unlike the beginning of Spielberg's awful Minority Report, this is an indication of the adult nature of the rest of the film. Young Harry is soon collected by Dumbledore, the master of the wizard school, who takes him to visit Mr. Slughorn (ably played by Jim Broadbent), an ex-professor at the school. Dumbledore wants to re-instate Slughorn for reasons of his own, which we discover in the movie's exciting middle third.

The best thing about this movie is the comedy. I had several genuine laugh out loud moments. Most of the comedy comes from the awkward crushes that Harry and his schoolmates have for each other. Harry wants to "snog" (AKA kiss) Ron's sister Ginny, while Ron wants to snog Harry's friend Hermione.

Hermione is played by the smoking hot Emma Watson.

I think this may be my favorite in the series. I like 'em all though.
